Who do you work with?

We do our best work with individuals and families who are retired or within 5-10 years of retirement. While most of them may not describe themselves as “rich,” they’ve been able to accumulate a nest egg of at least $500,000 thanks to a lifetime of hard work, sacrifice, and discipline. They’re actively seeking guidance on when to retire, how and where to withdraw income, and want to avoid overpaying the government in taxes.

As an independent firm, we have the privilege of working on a close, person-to-person basis with our clients—so you should enjoy working with us, and we should enjoy working with you!

Are you a Fiduciary?

Yes. Retirement Matters is an independent fiduciary unattached to a larger investment or insurance firm. That means we don’t work for any other company—we work for you. As a fiduciary advisor, we are legally and ethically required to act in your best interest, ensuring that every financial recommendation aligns with your goals—not hidden fees or commissions. This commitment also includes ongoing education and rigorous industry requirements, so we stay up to date on tax laws, investment strategies, and financial planning best practices to provide you with the most informed guidance.

What are your qualifications?

Our team has over two decades of experience providing financial advice to clients, with our lead advisor holding the following designations:

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®)
  • Bucket Plan Certified® Advisor (BPC)
  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
  • Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP)
  • Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL)
  • National Social Security Advisor (NSSA)
  • Tax Planning Certified Professional™ (TPCP™).

What if I am already working with an advisor?

Many of our clients have worked with other financial professionals earlier in their lives and careers as they’ve navigated their way “up the mountain.” However, those professionals often focused on only one or two areas of wealth management instead of the whole financial picture, and when it came time to start planning for retirement, they discovered they needed someone with the knowledge and experience to guide them “down the mountain.” At Retirement Matters, we take care to coordinate and balance every area of your finances into a comprehensive wealth plan that encompasses income planning, asset management, tax management, risk management, and legacy planning, to help you build a strong foundation to support your future that’s flexible enough to support your life.

What is your process?

Before committing your time or ours, we start with a 20-minute introductory phone call to make sure our skills and offerings align with your concerns and priorities.

If we think our guidance would benefit your situation and you would be a good fit for our firm, we’ll schedule our Discovery meeting, where we’ll dive deeper into the particulars of your financial situation and future goals.

Once our partnership has been established, our financial planning and ongoing wealth management process follows the 4 D’s:

  • Discovery—All about you. We learn about you and your financial history, current situation, and plans for the future, taking the time to fully understand your long-term goals, main concerns, top priorities, and any existing planning.
  • Design—Where the magic happens. Using this panoramic snapshot of your financial landscape, we integrate the details into a comprehensive, future-focused wealth management plan that’s specifically tailored to you and your dreams.
  • Delivery—Where the rubber meets the road. We put your customized wealth plan into action and actively manage every aspect, making sure all parts work seamlessly together to help optimize your wealth while protecting against potential losses.
  • Dedication—Ongoing support. We believe that planning is more critical than a plan, and the wealth plan we help you create is more than a two-dimensional blueprint—it’s a living, adaptable schema that we continue to monitor, adjust, and improve to make sure it continues working for and with your life, not against it.

Is your firm too small to work with a client with my needs?

That depends on what kind of advisor you want to work with. Wealth management is incredibly personal because it is your livelihood in our hands, which is why we forge strong bonds with those we serve and get to know them. Many large firms don’t have the capacity to provide that kind of service, but we have the unique benefit of being able to give our time while serving your needs at scale. We’re backed by Prosperity Capital Advisors (PCA), which provides investment infrastructure from some of the world’s largest asset managers; a nationwide network of skilled professionals we can tap into at any time for complex planning needs; processes and coaching so we are always up to date on the latest solutions; and so much more. If you value a hands-on advisor who can serve high-net-worth clients with a holistic approach, then we may be a good match for each other.
